THE JOURNAL CLUB: MARCH EDITION

Stress in the mind becomes stress in the body. Hold only what you need and let the rest go.

MARCH THEME: THE THINGS WE CARRY.

The world is so wobbly right now. Things (thoughts, emotions, belongings) can feel heavy. Wobbly things can quickly turn to ‘stress’ if we don’t find a place to lay them down.

The world also needs art right now. And always. Especially at times of global crisis. Art-making and viewing art allows us to process our experiences, it helps us to express and to understand this wobbly world we inhabit.

This month I invite you to take note of all the wobbly and heavy things you are carrying and lay them down inside your art journal.

WRITING PROMPT:

Write a list of all the things you are ‘carrying’ mentally and physically (worries, memories, dreams, plans, to-do lists).

ART-MAKING PROMPT:

Block out/cover over/obscure the items in the list that feel too heavy to carry any longer and you want to ‘let go’. (I got completely carried away with my mark making and covered my entire page!)

MONTHLY TOP TIP:

Your physical space affects your mental space, what are you carrying in your physical spaces that you could let go of? What feels heavy in your creative space? What inspiring items or imagery could you replace it with. Watch how this transforms your journaling practice.

REMEMBER:

Think of the prompt as an opportunity to exercise your creativity, as a jumping-off point to interpret however you like, with zero pressure to create perfect art, there is no right or wrong way to respond!

We are looking forward to seeing what you create, be sure to send us a photo of your work or tag us and use #CHHJournalClub on Instagram, and we’ll share our favourites right here inside The Journal Club.
