JANUARY THEME: UN-BECOMING
I think life might just be about continuously learning to simultaneously unfold and un-become.
Learning to balance the ‘us’ that we are evolving into because of our own life experiences and values, along with the ‘us’ that we have unconsciously become because of the experiences and values that have been handed down and accepted as ‘truth’ from other people in our lives.
The start of a new year is often full of big ideas and strict resolutions about things we will do and changes we will make with the goal of becoming a different/better/improved version of ourselves.
But what if this year you flipped the switch and focused on what you can do to un-become and simply make space to allow for a different/better/improved version of yourself?
WRITING PROMPT:
What are the thoughts and beliefs you have about life/the world that don't feel like you? What can you shed and leave behind in 2021 to make space for growth in 2022?
ART-MAKING PROMPT:
Collect scraps (paper/fabric/packaging… anything!) and arrange them into an interesting composition to represent the parts of you that are unfolding and shedding.
MONTHLY TOP TIP:
Experiment with ‘layers’ in your art journal, work new elements over previous ones, let some parts be hidden, some parts revealed. Enjoy the unexpected results!
